The Giro Insurgent™ Spherical is focused on delivering the protection that our top riders demand, from the Enduro World Series to Red Bull Rampage. Our engineers maximized the intake points for cool, fresh air while optimizing the exhaust ports and connecting it all with deep channels. A lightweight, soft-touch and absorbent pad set includes a brow pad with dedicated flange to route sweat away from your eyes. Two different cheek pads are included with each of the three sizes, allowing for a customizable fit, and are secured via a directional snap system allowing for easy removal in case of a crash. At 1,040 grams in size M/L, the Insurgent is 200 grams lighter than the Disciple™ Mips despite adding features including the advanced protection performance of Spherical Technology™.
Insurgent Spherical utilizes a pair of foam layers that work like a ball and socket to redirect impact energy in a crash. One layer is EPS, which is well suited to highspeed crashes. The other is a lower density EPP foam with rebound characteristics to address low-speed, roll-around-in-the-dirt-type spills.

Additional features include a patent-pending Flex Gasket along the lower edge of the helmet, designed to reduce the role a helmet can play in certain collarbone impacts, tool-free breakaway visor bolts with integrated Allen key receiver for easy removal, and a central visor bolt hole, which does double-duty as the ideal mount for P.O.V. action cameras. The Giro Insurgent Spherical is truly optimized protection for riders redefining what is possible in progressive mountain biking.

A perfect balance of genuine DH safety and usability.

This helmet is perfect balance of genuine DH safety and usability.

Now I have it in my hands, the spherical MIPS technology is very convincing - unlike `ordinary` MIPS which I`m very familiar with. The two types of polystyrene (or whatever it is) is also very convincing to the touch; one for the big hits which is familiar and the other for repetitive smaller knocks of everyday riding (deformable and then returns to original state).

The fit (XL) is perfect. I have a `round` big head (63) and usually have difficulty with tightness at the sides. This shell doesn`t do that and the different sized extra pads would accommodate a more `oval` skull too.

Advertised as a full on DH helmet, this feels really strong and robust enough to justify its use for racing. Yet it also has great airflow and is only just over 1KG and doesn`t feel that.

In the U.K. this helmet is OK for summer use ridden back up the track without being taken off. Removal is easy enough though for that drag back up. It`s fine for `enduros.

Breathing is fine and mud doesn`t get in through the grill. The view is very open - better than my Bell Super 3R which feels an entirely less serious helmet once held in the hand. There`s good room for goggles and the strap - goggles can be sited above the brow below the excellent `peaks.

The strap is the `D` type and works really well. It`s so secure and adjustable and even with my big head is long enough to remove the helmet without completely undoing the buckle - there`s a popper to hold the spare strap out the way when tightened.

I can`t fault this helmet. It`s th next gen and sets the standard at this mid-price point - you won`t beat it for Les’s that £150 more.
